Highlights of the role
As the Vice President, Business Development you will lead EPCOR’s business developments efforts across North America. You will be responsible for the strategy and advancement of opportunities in alignment with EPCOR’s growth objectives. While the primary focus will be leading the pursuit of municipal and industrial water and wastewater opportunities, the role will also provide business development and transactional support for EPCOR’s regulated utilities. The Vice President Business of Development will report to the Senior Vice President of North American Commercial Services.
 
While our preference is to have this role based in Round Rock, Texas, we are open to considering candidates located in Phoenix, Arizona, Edmonton or Calgary, Canada.
 
This role requires travel across all EPCOR jurisdictions in Canada and the United States. We welcome applications from both internal and external candidates.

What you’ll be responsible for
  • Leading the development and execution of business development strategy and initiatives that support EPCOR’s strategic growth objectives
  • Developing and maintaining a robust pipeline of project development opportunities and acquisition opportunities
  • Overseeing project development and acquisition processes from sourcing and origination through due diligence, financial valuation, deal negotiation, finalization of the business case, closing and successful integration
  • Developing and presenting growth strategies, business cases and recommendations to senior executives and the board of directors
  • Maintaining a robust network of water industry contacts and developing and managing relationships with market participants including consultants, engineers, contractors, equipment providers, law firms, investment banks and financing sources
  • Building and mentoring a high-performing business development team that drives results and works collaboratively cross functionally across the organization
  • Representing ECPOR at key industry and stakeholder events
  • Staying current on water and wastewater industry policies, legislation, regulations, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends across North America – translating insights into strategy and action
  • Supporting the development of business case content and other required materials for regulatory filings related to business development activities
  • Setting the longterm growth direction with a focus on expanding EPCOR’s presence in regulated, municipal, and industrial water and wastewater markets across North America
  • Supporting other projects and responsibilities as requested by leadership
What’s required to be successful
  • Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or a related field is required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Transactional experience in the water/wastewater sector or broader utility and infrastructure industries
  • Experience leading complex transactions, including project development, M&A, joint venture structuring, and financing of longduration infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, valuation, corporate finance, and public-private financing structures
  • Proficiency with publicprivate partnership models
  • Cross-border Canada/US experience is an asset
  • Strong judgment skills with the ability to prioritize and pursue the most attractive opportunities to effectively deploy business development resources and capital
  • Ability and willingness to make timely decisions with imperfect information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to crisply and concisely convey complex information to executives and the board of directors
  • Team-orientation with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Ability to influence and ensure align amongst stakeholders and drive consensus within the organization
  • Ability to motivate and lead high-functioning team to achieve results
